◆ OUR SERVICES / TESTING, DIET & NUTRITION COUNSELING

Nutrition that works for your biology — not generic advice.

It’s not just what you eat — it’s what your body can actually absorb, convert, and use. We combine advanced diagnostic testing with personalized nutrition counseling to uncover the hidden metabolic, genetic, and inflammatory drivers behind your symptoms — giving you a clear nutritional strategy built on real data, not guesswork.

Nutrition that works for your biology — not generic advice

You’ve cleaned up your diet. You’ve cut out processed foods. Maybe you’ve tried supplements, eliminated gluten, gone low-carb, or followed the latest protocol everyone is raving about. And yet — you still feel tired, foggy, bloated, or stuck. Your labs come back “normal.” Your doctor tells you to keep doing what you’re doing. But something clearly isn’t working.

Here’s what most people — and even many providers — miss: you could be eating the most nutrient-dense foods in the world and still be running on empty. When your digestive system isn’t working properly, when inflammation is blocking absorption, or when your genetic makeup requires a different approach entirely, a “healthy diet” alone isn’t the answer. The real question isn’t just what you’re eating — it’s whether your body can actually use it. That’s why we don’t guess. We test.

Insulin resistance, subclinical nutrient deficiencies, low-grade immune activation, and oxidative stress can quietly fuel disease for years before they show up on a conventional panel. Why standard labs miss it

Why standard lab work misses the full picture

Most conventional testing looks at a narrow set of markers — basic cholesterol, fasting glucose, maybe a thyroid panel — and calls it a day. But these surface-level snapshots don’t tell you why your arteries are inflamed, why your metabolism has stalled, why you can’t shake the fatigue, or why your heart-risk markers keep climbing despite a clean diet.

Standard testing also misses the early warning signs. And here’s what connects all of this to your nutrition: if you don’t know what’s happening at the cellular, metabolic, and genetic level, you can’t make informed decisions about what to eat, what to supplement, or what to avoid. You’re navigating blind — which is exactly how most patients end up frustrated, confused, and cycling through diets that never deliver lasting results.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone

We hear these concerns from patients every day:

  • You’re eating well and still gaining weight, losing energy, or watching your cholesterol rise
  • You’ve been told your labs are “fine” but you know something is off
  • You’re overwhelmed by conflicting nutritional advice and don’t know what’s right for your body
  • You’re taking supplements but have no idea if they’re helping — or if you’re missing critical nutrients
  • You have a family history of heart disease and want to know how your genetics influence what you should eat
  • You’re managing a cardiovascular condition and want nutrition guidance that actually accounts for your heart health

These frustrations don’t mean you’re failing. They mean you haven’t had the right testing or the right guidance to match your nutrition to your biology. That’s exactly what we’re here to change.

TESTING THAT TELLS THE FULL STORY

A complete metabolic fingerprint.

We use a layered testing approach designed to reveal what’s actually happening inside your body — from your arteries and metabolism to your cells and genes. This is the foundation of everything we do, because without accurate data, even the best nutritional strategy is just another guess.

01

Advanced Lipid & Particle Analysis

Not just total cholesterol, but particle size, density, and behavior — so we understand how your body is actually processing fats, not just how much cholesterol you have.

02

Inflammatory & Immune Markers

Detecting the chronic, low-grade inflammation that drives cardiovascular disease, metabolic dysfunction, and poor nutrient utilization — often invisible on standard panels.

03

Metabolic & Nutritional Assessments

Insulin sensitivity, blood sugar dynamics, and micronutrient status for key vitamins and minerals — magnesium, zinc, B vitamins, selenium, and vitamin D.

04

Genetic Testing

Revealing predispositions that affect how you metabolize fats, absorb cholesterol, process nutrients, and respond to different dietary strategies — so your plan fits your blueprint.

05

Hormone Panels

Thyroid function, cortisol rhythm, sex hormones, and metabolic hormones that directly influence appetite, energy, body composition, and cardiovascular health.

06

Gut Health & Digestive Function

Microbiome balance, gut permeability, enzyme function, and inflammation that can silently block nutrient absorption — even on a clean diet.

When the picture warrants, we also assess

  • Toxin & heavy metal exposure: environmental burdens that deplete critical nutrients, overwhelm detoxification pathways, and accelerate vascular aging.
  • Aging & oxidative stress markers: measuring how cellular aging and oxidative damage are impacting your heart health and overall vitality.

The HeartWell Toolkit™ — your precision starting point

Our HeartWell Toolkits are at-home blood and genetic testing kits that provide a patient-centered starting point for your care. Using a simple fingerstick blood sample and saliva collection, we assess specific biomarkers including lipid profiles, inflammatory and metabolic markers, hormones, and genetic and epigenetic measurements. These toolkits pair with your Step 1 Explore visit to give us actionable data from day one — so we’re never working in the dark.

Nutrition counseling built on real data

Once we understand your full diagnostic picture, we build a nutritional strategy designed specifically for you — not a cookie-cutter meal plan or a trendy elimination protocol, but a data-driven approach that accounts for your metabolic profile, genetics, inflammatory status, hormonal landscape, and cardiovascular goals:

  • Personalized dietary strategy — every recommendation is connected to something we’ve measured. If your genetics show cholesterol overabsorption, we tailor your fat and fiber intake; if insulin resistance is driving dysfunction, we focus on blood sugar stabilization; if hormonal shifts are at play, we adjust macronutrient balance to support recovery.
  • Targeted supplementation — precision nutraceuticals guided by your results, genetics, and clinical presentation. Every recommendation serves a clear purpose, addresses a documented need, and is monitored for effectiveness — never supplements for the sake of supplements.
  • Functional foods for heart health — evidence-based whole foods and nutrients with demonstrated cardiovascular benefit, selected to reduce inflammatory load, improve lipid metabolism, and support detoxification and cellular repair.
  • Ongoing support & adjustment — nutrition isn’t set-it-and-forget-it. We reassess and adjust based on your response, your labs, and how you feel, with ongoing access to guidance through the Fit in Your GENES® program.
WHY A CARDIOLOGIST LEADS YOUR NUTRITION STRATEGY

Food is a direct lever for cardiovascular prevention.

What you eat — and what your body does with it — directly shapes your cardiovascular health. We don’t just see your food choices as a lifestyle factor; we see them as a direct lever for cardiovascular prevention and treatment, evaluated through that lens at every step.

THE NUTRITION–HEART CONNECTION

Every choice touches your arteries.

  • Nutrient deficiencies can weaken blood vessels.
  • Chronic inflammation from dietary triggers accelerates plaque formation.
  • Insulin resistance from poor blood sugar management damages the endothelium.
  • Hormonal imbalances driven by nutritional gaps affect cholesterol metabolism, blood pressure, and vascular resilience.
  • Your strategy isn’t just improving how you feel today — it’s actively protecting your heart for the long term.
SAFE, PERSONALIZED & CLINICALLY SUPERVISED

Conservative and patient-centered.

  • All testing and guidance is supervised by a board-certified integrative cardiologist.
  • We use evidence-based protocols and medical-grade diagnostics.
  • We collaborate with your primary care physician and other specialists.
  • We start with the most evidence-supported steps first, use the lowest-risk options that match your goals, and add interventions only when there’s a clear reason and a way to measure benefit.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Testing & nutrition, answered.

01 What makes your testing different from the bloodwork my regular doctor orders? +
Standard bloodwork typically covers a limited set of markers that identify disease after it’s already developed. Our testing goes deeper — assessing advanced lipid particles, inflammatory and immune markers, genetic predispositions, nutrient status, hormonal balance, gut function, and oxidative stress. This gives us a complete metabolic picture that allows us to identify problems early and build a truly personalized plan, rather than waiting until symptoms become a diagnosis.
02 Do I need to come into the office for testing? +
Many of our tests can be completed at home. The HeartWell Toolkit uses a simple fingerstick blood sample and saliva collection that you do yourself. Some advanced functional medicine tests may require a blood draw through a local lab facility, which we help coordinate. We also offer virtual consultations to review your results and build your plan, making this accessible regardless of your location.
03 Will you tell me exactly what to eat? +
We provide clear, specific nutritional guidance based on your test results — not a rigid meal plan that ignores your life. Your dietary strategy will include recommendations on what to eat, what to limit, meal timing, and supplementation, all personalized to your metabolic profile, genetic makeup, and cardiovascular goals. We also provide practical support to help you implement changes in a way that’s sustainable for your schedule, preferences, and family.
04 I already eat a healthy diet. Do I still need testing? +
A healthy diet is a strong foundation, but it doesn’t guarantee that your body is absorbing and utilizing nutrients effectively. Gut inflammation, genetic variants, hormonal imbalances, and environmental exposures can all block nutrient absorption or increase your body’s demands beyond what diet alone can provide. Testing reveals whether what you’re eating is actually translating into the cellular nutrition your body needs — and often, even the most health-conscious patients discover significant gaps they didn’t know about.
05 How does nutrition counseling fit into the Fit in Your GENES® program? +
Nutrition is a core pillar of the Fit in Your GENES® program. Your initial testing through the HeartWell Toolkit provides the baseline data we use to build your personalized nutrition strategy. As you progress through the program, we continue to monitor your response through follow-up testing and adjust your plan accordingly. This iterative, data-driven approach ensures that your nutrition evolves with your health — supporting your cardiovascular goals at every stage.
06 Do you recommend supplements, and if so, what kind? +
We recommend targeted, medical-grade supplements when testing reveals a specific deficiency or metabolic need. We don’t believe in taking supplements for the sake of it — every recommendation is tied to your lab data and serves a clear clinical purpose. Common areas where supplementation makes a meaningful difference include magnesium, B vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, CoQ10, vitamin D, and targeted antioxidants — though your specific protocol will depend entirely on what your testing shows.
